emski... that's my name as well.... and like you, am an aspiring teacher (hopefully). i just finished reading this particular blog of yours... let me first say that you write pretty well (unlike you, am not much of a writer). I also believe that parents has a big role in a child's learning process... I believe that learning begins at home (with the parents). Parents should be aware of this since their child/children are the one's suffering from the consequences.

It's really good to see someone write so well on something they're clearly so passionate about.

Hats off

Great article Emski. I also agree with you and Tom that it comes from home essentially. I think it's really key that you pointed out the fact that the child thought he was a mistake. Someone who's made to think like that will never be motivated to succeed. Essentially, to flourish, children need to feel loved and valued. Such love, in my opinion, is as at least as valuable in giving children the will to live and learn if not more valuable than practically educating children. Having said this the two things usually come hand in hand.

I have to admit that I totally agree that it is the parents' fault. The trouble is that so many seem to be incompetent.

On a side note, since i've left school, everyday I see children makes me want schools to bring back the cane...DAMN KIDS!
